Background: For centuries Azath Republic stood as a pillar of civilization, outpacing the rest of the world in the arts and magic. With most independent city-states looking up to it and seeking friendly relationship with it. The republic was peaceful and prosperous for the 600 years of it's existence. However, many see Azathians as decadent snobs, who know nothing but luxury and cannot produce anything usefull.
Ideology: Azath primarily worship the Sun Goddess, and derive most of their moral guidance from her teachings. Specifically they believe it to be their obligation to eventually convert the entire world. They are not overly militaristic, however and prefer economic pressure or political machinations to achieve those goals. Separation of religion and state does not exist in Azath Republic, their thinking is that religion informs people's moral thinking, which is in turn intertwined with politics (according to Azath the ultimate goal of politics is bringing about a more moral society).
Geography: Azath Republic is located on the Azath plain, which is very flat, that's why communication between member cities is easy. Climate is mild (-5 to 25 C)
Government: Type: Democratic, parliament and Consul are elected for 5 year terms. However Mages Order and nobles hold most of the assets and thus have a lot of de-facto power. Capital: AzathCity Opposition Groups: Some religious groups

Human rights: Overall the situation inside the country is good, except for religious freedom. While Azath don't strictly prohibit other religions, they are discouraged in many ways. It has been alleged that in times of crisis Azath sometimes either sacrificed their people, or knowingly attacked civilians. But outside of armed confrontations Azath are somewhat "civilized": courts are independent, torture is illegal, executions are rare.
Economy: Type: Small craftsmen, no large industry exists Exports: Luxury Items Imports: Food, Natural resources
Military: Overview: Azath army is small but loyal and well trained. But it is neither technologically advanced nor experienced (Azath Republic hasn't been in a major war for 500 years). It relies on skill and honour. Soon after the Azath came into existence they went to a considerable trouble to prevent development and production of "industrial" weapons. While they did not generally extend this ban to themselves in general, they did succeed in slowing down weapons research everywhere, including their own. Most of heavy weapons they do manufacture, they try not to emphasize or use it too much. Size: 150 000 standing, 500 000 in reserve Branches: Infantry, Elite Infantry, Air Corps, Mages % Budget: 5
