Olivia was born in a large but unglamorous fishing town. So she tried to move to the capital of the Republic, Azath City, which would be more to her liking, but apparently that didn't work out too well, since she decided to move through DulVille... Generally speaking Olivia is inconsiderate, selfish, manipulative and lazy. She also tends to be bitter about everything. On the plus side she is rational and comparatively intelligent.

Mika was born of uncertain parents in DulVille, who left the town soon after she was born. Since then Mika was trying to gain acceptance of DulVille citizens without much success, they always saw her as an annoying nuisance. Mika is relatively smart, but often has trouble concentrating. She is not callous or malevolent like Olivia, but she is not especially kind either, nor is she very principled.

Vicky is the head of state of the Vickyan Empire. She is ruthless and pragmatic, doing whatever she feels will bring her more power. Vicky does not believe in concept of justice she thinks that some people have power and some don't, and the latter can philosophize about the injustice of "the way things are" till the cows come home it won't change a thing. She thinks that might makes right, to put it simple, so Vicky have come to rely mainly on the military to secure her goals

Zmey is Vicky's right hand and is second in command in Vickian Empire. Zmey likes to drink, play cards for money, smoke and fool around with women. His knowledge of strategy is very theoretical, and he does not seem capable of following Sum Zi's advice about capturing enemy equipment rather then destroying it. But he has some very important positive qualities: he's loyal, follows orders without questioning them too much, and he is much better then Vicky in "making things happen" i.e. actual management, she tends to see the "big picture".

Candy is decadent but intelligent and fairly well informed. She is also better with people then most Vickyans who consider those who don't share there life-philosophy to be week and unworthy. As such she occasionally performs diplomatic duties. Which is not very often...

Joseph was one of the first people to sign up as the enforcer for Vicky's regime after the King Naivar's death. He proved to be loyal and never questioned his order no matter how trivial or unethical they might have seemed. So he was eventually promoted to the head of the army's special operations division.

Gustav Brown:

Gustav Brown is, as he told Olivia, Consul's "defense coordinator" in DulVille, but judging from the "plan" devised for protecting the city he is not a good "defense coordinator"... However, his intelligence gathering is much better, Gustav's spies managed to collect a lot of valuable about the reclusive Vickyan Empire...

Aquilo:

Aquilo is an idealist, who thinks that, in the long run "good" tends to triumph over "evil" and he, of course, thinks of himself as good. Aquilo is more or less honest, honourable and has a certain ability to reassure those around him to give them hope in dark times... Weather or not that hope is justified is another question, but at least Aquilo is confident.

Lotse:

Lotse is more of a realist compared to Aquilo. Her hometown was overrun and captured by Vickyan forces, so she escaped to the Azath Republic in hope that eventually she'll have a chance to cast revenge against the Empire, that's why she joined Aquilo and Blake. Lotse tends to be angry and bitter, since in her opinion no one is doing anything to stop Vickyans' reign of terror. She also feels a little superior to her comrades, because she is that only one in the bunch to have actually fought in armed conflict.

Blake:

Blake really loves knives, especially big knives. He is not as idealistic as Aquilo (few people are) but he believes too that he has honour, unlike the enemy and that that is why he, and their group will win over the invading forces
